MISSIONARIES
Kevin & Cindy Elder are missionaries to Colombia, South America. They are involved in three major aspects of ministry in Medellin. They are first actively involved in the Medellin Bible College, helping in the formation and training of pastors, missionaries, and church leaders, in addition to coordinating the development of the physical facility of the College. In addition, the Elders lead and support social needs ministry through "His Hands Extended," a foundation that provides an avenue for Colombians to help Colombians, reaching out to those in need physically, emotionally, and most importantly spiritually. The third aspect of their ministry, through the help of Speed the Light, is media development and production of television and evangelistic programs, also giving opportunity for young media professionals and musicians to develop their skills and to use their talents in ministry.
DESTINATION
Colombia is a beautiful nation located in the Northwest of South America. Colombian territory encompasses Amazon rainforest, tropical grassland and both Caribbean and Pacific coastlines. With an estimated 49 million people in 2017, Colombia is the third-most populous country in Latin America, after Brazil and Mexico. While Colombia remains a mostly Roman Catholic country due to the Spanish colonization of the early 16th century, the 1991 Colombian constitution guarantees freedom of religion and all religious faiths and churches are equally free before the law. And, while the public education system is growing in Columbia, rural education still represents 80% of the education offered, with many isolated schools lacking in resources and electricity. Due to this, 55% of children attending rural schools drop out before concluding their studies. In a country with a history of turmoil there is a great need for the love of Christ and the truth of the Gospel.
